After Effects... You have kiddnapped my sanity and i would like it back thankyou.

Okay so today we got given our first really big assignment in class. We have 4 days to design a 2D background that can be moved about in 3D space. Sounds confusing I know. I was a completely astonished to see what this technique is used for and how seamless it can be.

So first I spent a couple of hours doing background research and put together some concepts for my background. Quick concepts that took about 20 minutes each.

I chose the underwater ruins concept because I thought It had really great depth and would be simple to color and complete. I broke down my concept and tweaked it to simple shapes and forms that I could use to test my background in AFX.
I then chucked my test background into AFX and began composting it in 3D. After hours of ruthless tinkering I got somewhere, only to have AFX crap out and decide not to render for me. Well I finally got it to work and here I am.

30 Minute Challenge!! Day #1

Okay so I've taken on an interesting challenge. It's called the 30 Minute Challenge. I have start a digital painting everyday and I can only spend 30 minutes on it. Then I have to stop and upload it. Hopefully I'll start to see some awesome improvements in my speed and skill in my digital paintings.

Day #1
Okay well for my first day of the 30 Minute Challenge I seriously underestimated how long 30 minutes is. I barely managed to scrape the surface on this landscape I started painting. I used a photo from Google as reference cause I thought I could paint faster with it. Pretty soon I realized that I was paying to much attention to the detail of the photo. Rather then trying to get as much as I can done in the 30 minutes.

Dialouge!! He speaks.

My first attempt at dialogue in Maya, not to bad it took about 3 hours. I found it really finicky mostly.
"Yea I mean, It's not to bad I mean, should be okay I'm not to worried about it really"

He Walks!! A Man in Motion.

Okay starting to get the basics down. Here we go a walk cycle I attempted from the side and front. It took me about 6 hours to to do. Which sounds like along time but it felt like nothing. This is my second attempt a walk cycle after my first attempt failed miserably sliding everywhere.

Modelling

My first model in Maya. Rendered with basic colours and lights.

Painting Time.

Decided to work on my digital painting tonight. I've never painted a person before, so I worked from an old photo. Pretty happy with it I suppose.
